Es geht gleich los!

M and I will soon be renovating/building a house. Yes, you read that correctly. I know, I can hardly believe it myself.

The story thus far: M’s mother inherited an house built in the early 1930’s. There is a lot of history and emotion bundled up in this house. I don’t feel like getting into it right here and now, but suffice to say, we’re going balls out on this. We are going to renovate the main house and build onto the back. Yes, at the same time. I know, it’s totally mad.

Unfortunately, this means we will be leaving Lüneburg soon, but when you get an opportunity to do something like this, you gotta take it.

This week the demolition crew shows up to knock down the 2 structures you see here on the back of the house. Then a new foundation will be poured and on top of that a new 3 story addition will be built out of wood with gray Cape Cod Stülpschalung.

M has been the super champ in all of this so far. She has done the bulk of getting offers, going through them, cracking skulls when they needed cracking, etc. My turn to shine will be when it’s time to build things and get dirty.

Watch this space for updates, pictures and perhaps a webcam.

Räbel Natur

About this time last year I was out in the wilderness making music. While I was there, I recorded some of the natural sounds in that environment. It was always noisiest around dawn and dusk. At first it was a bit unnerving because it was so loud, eerie and yet ubiquitous. You couldn’t pinpoint the source. It just seemed to come from everywhere. After a few days I hardly noticed anymore. Check it out. Try it with headphones.

Going For a Stroll

Yesterday there was a storm. Right before it hit, I heard quacking sounds. I opened my door and saw these guys just chilling. The river is about 50m away from my door, but I have never seen ducks come this far up the street. Then the storm came and they just walking up the street away from the river.
Ducks in Lüneburg
Other than that, this post is pointless.

It’s because the wolves have better taste in music than the boy.

While walking home from the busstop this week, a 13-year-old Norwegian school boy stumbled upon four wolves. In the end, it may have been his love of heavy-metal music by the band Creed that saved his life.

He may have actually deserved to be eaten, but the wolves decided it was not worth it.

Wolf 1: Dude, we got this kid cornered, there’s no escape!

…i’ll be dammed fighting you, it’s impossible, impossible!…

Wolf 2: Hmmm, if we eat this kid, we might catch the stupid. Better let him go.

Wolf 3: My ears!
